Chesterfield Police warning about jury duty phone scam

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Chesterfield County Police Department is warning its residents about a scam in which callers are telling victims they missed jury duty and need to pay a fine.
According to the department, Chesterfield residents are reporting callers spoofing legitimate Chesterfield County phone numbers and using the names of actual police department employees.
The department reminds residents that they will not they will not get a phone call from them or from the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office to ask to pay a fine over missing jury duty or a court proceeding.

Anyone who gets a call from someone claiming to be from a state or local agency should hang up and call the agency directly. Do not call any numbers provided by the initial caller and never send gift cards to cryptocurrency to a caller.
