MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- An on-duty Memphis Police officer was involved in an overnight car crash after a man allegedly ran a red light in the Midtown area. Just after 12:30 a.m., officers say they responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a Memphis Police car on South Cleveland Street and Union Avenue. According to reports, a Dodge Charger was going northbound on South Cleveland Street when he ran the red light at Union Avenue. That is when the police officer driving eastbound on Union Avenue hit the driver's side of the Dodge Charger. The officer was not injured. The driver of the Charger was taken to Methodist Central in a non-critical condition. He was issued a citation for disregarding a red light, not having a driver's license, having no financial responsibility, having seatbelts required, and violating state registration. Police say the passenger of the Charger had left the scene and was later found at an Exxon gas station on Union Avenue. She was issued a citation for leaving the scene. The Charger and the police car had to be towed due to being disabled.
