BOONE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson returned to the campaign trail with two visits on Monday. The gubernatorial candidate appeared in Wilkesboro and Boone, where he repeatedly talked about his growing frustrations with the media. "And quite frankly I am sick of it and every time I get in front of you... you need to refocus yourself on the issues that matter to people and 15-year-old sensational lies don't matter to people. What matters to people is how they're going to make it in this state," Robinson tells reporters. VIDEO: Defiant Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson speaks in Cumberland County Saturday night Those comments were made just moments before the Lt. Gov. told reporters he would no longer take questions. Even as he was ushered back to his vehicle, he refused to take a question from Queen City News on his address to Republicans who are concerned he will have a negative impact on down-the-ballot races. “Goodbye” is how he responded. Prior to this, Robinson spoke for close to ten minutes to a crowded dining room inside the Blue Ridge Diner. This is a privately owned stapled along the Blue Ridge just outside the city limits of Boone. Much of his time was spent on the media coverage of his controversial statements, even as he tried to put the focus back on policy. “I’m not getting down in the mud with the pigs, I’m up here with the people,” is how he framed his stance. The Lt. Gov. also complained that only his controversial statements have been focused on and not his ideas for the future of North Carolina. CNN reported that Robinson frequently posted on a porn forum, allegedly calling himself a ‘Black Nazi’. CNN also reported that Robinson posted about his sexual fantasies and that he reportedly peeped at women when he was younger. “We need to work on our economy, and the five things it stands on,” he told supporters on Monday. “Public safety, public education, healthcare, infrastructure, and housing and how we can make those things healthy.” According to Robinson, he’s had plans to address education and how to handle federal funding for it in North Carolina and told reporters on Monday that he would work to remove agendas from classrooms and support a parent's right to choose their child’s education. Many of which, continue to align with Republican stances across other key races in the state. On Sunday, Robinson's campaign announced that his general consultant, senior advisor, campaign manager, deputy campaign manager and finance director resigned from his campaign. This comes amid controversy over online posts revealed in a CNN article. Monday, Robinson said he has a large number of resumes coming in and has not announced who could fill those roles so far. Queen City News spoke with a volunteer who just recently threw her support behind Mark Robinson. She said, “I vote person, I don’t vote party. Unfortunately, the Democrats with all of what’s being gone, a lot of us have been pushed into voting for party.”
