NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) - The New Haven Police Department says an incident at a high school that landed an officer in the emergency room Tuesday is being blown out of proportion on social media.
In the process of removing a student from New Haven Jr/Sr High School for being "disorderly," an officer who has not been named was "battered," according to Police Chief James Krueger.
Krueger said the officer was taken to the emergency room with minor injuries and will make a full recovery.
Just one student was involved in the altercation. Krueger emphasized the situation has been exaggerated with rumors on social media.
A statement from East Allen County Schools is the same message sent to families, which reads:
“A member of our bulldog family suffered a medical emergency during first period. EMS and New Haven Police responded to assist. This resulted in the building being placed on a “hold” for approximately 20 minutes. Our school day will resume as normal for the remainder of the day. Thank you for your continued support”.
