  (WPDE) — A 12-year-old Carvers Bay Middle student is charged with making school threats and is being transported to the South Carolina Dept. of Juvenile Justice in Columbia for incarceration until a hearing can be arranged, according toSheriff Carter Weaver. Another student told a parent after receiving a photo via text message of the weapon with threats to shoot up the school from the suspect, Weaver added. Georgetown County School District Safety Dept. was made aware of the threat just before 6 a.m. Tuesday and contacted Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies immediately responded to the home on Ford Village Road and the student was detained and interviewed by investigators where he admitted to making the threat, the county confirmed. TOP STORY: Deputies closing in on those involved in threats against Robeson Co. schools The student’s mother cooperated with the investigation and surrendered the pictured firearm, according to a release from a Georgetown County official. A search of the residence did not turn up additional evidence. Carvers Bay Middle School maintained its normal schedule and was never interrupted. Sheriff Weaver commends the students for their bravery in coming forward with vital information. He emphasizes the importance of community vigilance and urges parents to securely store any weapons in their homes to ensure the safety of everyone.
