(The Hill) — The son of Ryan Routh, the suspect in custody in connection with the second apparent assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, has been arrested on federal charges of possessing child pornography. Oran Alexander Routh was taken into custody Tuesday, according to court documents. Investigators say they found “hundreds” of child pornography files when they were searching the younger Routh's Guilford County, N.C., residence on Saturday in connection with an investigation “unrelated” to child exploitation. He faces two charges, including receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography. The child pornography was found on a Samsung Galaxy Note device inside Oran Routh's primary bedroom. He also allegedly has another device in his possession. “These files include videos from a known child pornography series created outside the state of North Carolina,” court documents say. “Videos from the series depict minors engaged in sex acts.” The complaint against Oran Routh included graphic descriptions of videos of minors approximately 6-8 and 12-14 years of age engaged in sex acts, and a chat from a messaging application in July, where he allegedly asked for a preview of content for sale. His father, Ryan Routh, is being investigated over the apparent assassination attempt against Trump. He was charged last week and remains in custody over two federal gun crimes: possessing a firearm despite being a convicted felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Secret Service agents were posted a few holes ahead of Trump at his Florida golf course when they noticed a man pushing a rifle’s muzzle through the course perimeter. They fired at the man, who fled the scene. Ryan Routh was arrested on the interstate shortly after in connection with the apparent attempt. Prosecutors alleged this week in court documents that Routh wrote a letter detailing his assassination plans months prior to the incident.
