NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot will give a briefing Tuesday night on crime statistics in Norfolk so far this year. According to the National Gun Violence Archive, there have been 41 shootings in the city this year, with 22 people killed. The two most recent shootings took the lives of 18-year-old men. On Sept. 3, Jamel Jones was shot and killed on Kimball Terrace. Police: Man shot to death on Kimball Terrace in Norfolk A month prior, John Daughtry was shot and killed on E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk police investigate fatal shooting of 18-year-old Talbot last spoke about the city’s crime statistics in January, where he said violent crime and crime overall were down significantly in Norfolk, with a 33% decrease in homicides in 2023 compared to 2022. He also said for 2024, he hopes murders don’t exceed 39. According to the National Gun Violence Archive, he’s achieving that goal so far. The meeting is today during the Norfolk City Council work session at 3:30 p.m.
