(WGHP) — Grab your umbrella because we will have a risk of showers and thunderstorms through the day.  A batch of thunderstorms rumbled across the Triad this morning, and scattered storms will continue to pop up this afternoon and tonight.  There is a Level 1/Marginal Risk of severe weather with the primary risk being damaging winds.  Today's highs will be in the upper-70's and tonight, lows will dip into the upper-60's. We'll have plenty of clouds tomorrow but only a 25% chance of rain during the day.  Highs will be near 80°. Thursday, expect cloudy skies with scattered showers.  The chance of rain is 60% and highs will be in the mid-70s. We'll be following the development of Helene in the Caribbean, especially as the end of the work week approaches.  Helene is forecast to become a major hurricane Thursday as it barrels into the Big Bend coastline of Florida.  It will continue to move northward from there, grazing the east side of Atlanta and the western slopes of the Appalachians through Tennessee and Kentucky on Friday and Saturday. In the Carolinas, we will feel the effects of Helene Friday and Friday night with the possibility of excessive rainfall from the Triad westward.  It will be breezy, with winds between 10 and 15 mph.  The chance of rain is 90% and highs will be in the mid-70s. After Helene fizzles out around the Great Lakes region, the weather will improve here for Saturday.  Enjoy a day with only a 25% chance of showers and partly sunny skies.  Highs will be near 80°. Sunday and Monday, an area of high pressure over New England will nose down the Appalachians, bringing in cooler temperatures.  High temperatures are expected to dip to the mid-70s with a 40% chance of showers both days.
