FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) - Authorities in Fond du Lac say one person was hurt and a home was left "heavily" damaged following a fire late Monday night. According to a release from the Fond du Lac Fire Rescue, crews responded at 11:09 p.m. to a two-story upper/lower duplex on 247 Packer Street for reports of a fire. Upon arrival, officials say fire was seen showing from the entire back of the home with heavy smoke coming out from the entire building. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources urging residents to ‘buy local, burn local’ Firefighters were able to knock down and make an interior attack on the fire, fully extinguishing it within 45 minutes. One person, the lone occupant of the second floor of the duplex, was injured after escaping out of a second-story window prior to the arrival of the fire department and had to be taken to the hospital. Officials report that the home ended up with heavy fire, smoke, and water damage throughout the building. An adjacent garage and vehicle were also damaged in the incident. At this time, no other information is available and an investigation into the cause of the fire by the Fond du Lac Fire Rescue is ongoing.
