(KRON) -- An already banged-up San Francisco 49ers team took more serious hits in Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed Monday that Brock Purdy is battling back soreness, Christian McCaffrey is going overseas to seek treatment on his injured calf, and a key defensive player is likely lost for the remainder of the season. Hargrave out with torn triceps Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave partially tore his tricep and will likely miss the rest of the 2024 season, Shanahan said. Hargrave was the team's prized addition ahead of the 2023, coming over from the Philadelphia Eagles. He had 44 tackles and seven sacks last season and recorded his first sack of this season Sunday in Los Angeles. He could return late in the playoffs. "It's a big (loss)," Shanahan said. "I thought he had his best game yesterday... He's one of our better players, and he was definitely going the right direction. He was gonna have a big year." Shanahan said the team would look around to see if an external Hargrave replacement is available, but they expect to call up player(s) from the practice squad. Purdy's back soreness Shanahan said Purdy is day-to-day with a sore back. He got an MRI done, which Shanahan said the team felt "good" about. George Kittle gives out Nikes after criticizing 49ers reporters’ ‘atrocious’ sneaker game Purdy completed 73.3% of his passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday, despite the losses of wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle. McCaffrey heads to Germany Christian McCaffrey remains on injured reserve with a strained calf/Achilles. Shanahan confirmed he will be traveling to Germany for further examination on the injured leg. "I know he's going to see a specialist that I believe can help him with his Achilles process," Shanahan said. The 49ers have turned to third-year player Jordan Mason in McCaffrey's absence. He has 324 rushing yards, second-most in the NFL. The 49ers will next return home to host the New England Patriots on Sunday.
