NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — No one was injured but a dog has died as the result of a fire to a home Monday evening on Spaulding Drive in Norfolk, a Norfolk Fire-Rescue spokesperson said. Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to a structure fire in the 900 block of Spaulding Drive, where they found smoke and flames from three sides of the single-story home, according to Glen Williams, battalion chief and public information officer for Norfolk Fire-Rescue. A resident had been removed from home before Norfolk Fire-Rescue arrived, Williams said, and crews worked to knock down the flams and perform a search of the structure, finding a dog that did not survive the fire despite resuscitation efforts. Williams said the scene was still active as they continue to hit hot spots and start an investigation. He said currently, the Red Cross will be helping three adults and a child who have been displaced. He said there have been no noted injuries at this time.
