INDIANAPOLIS — A man is facing multiple charges — including attempted murder — for his alleged role in a shooting that left a person critically injured. According to an affidavit for probable cause filed Sunday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to a U-Haul location in the 6800 block of Pendleton Pike around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 on a report of a person shot. When police arrived at the scene, they spoke with witnesses who indicated the shooting victim had left the scene in the passenger seat of a black pickup truck. Court documents indicate officers later learned the victim had been driven to Community East Hospital. Once the victim arrived at the hospital, he was taken straight into surgery, as medical staff reported he was in critical condition. When police asked emergency room doctors what the extent of the victim's injuries were, they learned he had suffered at least 10 wounds, including gunshot wounds to the legs, chest and groin. After speaking with multiple witnesses and reviewing security camera footage, police determined three vehicles pulled up to the scene moments before the shooting unfolded — a dark-colored sedan, a black SUV and a dark-colored Ford Fusion. Court records show that one of the black SUV's occupants got out of the vehicle and approached the suspect, who was sitting in the passenger seat of a black pickup truck. The man who exited the black SUV then raised a gun above his head and fired multiple shots at the black pickup truck. The dark-colored sedan, black SUV and dark-colored Ford Fusion all left the scene after the shooting. The truck also drove away from the area once the bullets stopped flying. Police later obtained a search warrant for the pickup truck the victim was shot in. Court documents report that the shell casings investigators recovered from the truck matched those found at the scene. As their investigation continued, police began to suspect 33-year-old Emanuel Berry was the person responsible for the shooting. In a subsequent interview, police presented the shooting victim with a six-person photo lineup and had him pick who he believed the shooter was from the array. The individual the victim selected was Emanuel Berry. Court records indicate Berry was convicted of burglary in Marion County before the shooting ever happened. According to the Marion County jail logs, Berry was booked on Sept. 17. Indiana's public court reporting system shows he's been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Berry is now scheduled to go on trial on Dec. 16.
