HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Two Oahu schools were recognized nationally, joining more than 350 schools for their high academic achievement and quality of education. Get Hawaii's latest morning news delivered to your inbox, sign up for News 2 You Koko Head Elementary and Mililani Ike Elementary were named part of the 2024 cohort of National Blue Ribbon Schools, earning recognition for being Exemplary High Performing Schools. Both schools were ranked amongst "Hawaii's highest-performing schools in English Language Arts and Mathematics as measured by state assessments." How HIDOE plans to continue providing high-quality, safe meals “We are incredibly proud to have Koko Head Elementary and Mililani ʻIke Elementary representing our Hawaiʻi public schools as shining examples of rigorous and well-rounded learning environments where students become globally competitive and locally committed. Congratulations to the students, teachers, staff and families for their collective efforts on this well-deserved achievement," said Superintendent Keith Hayashi. Koko Head Elementary was a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School awardee, using social-emotional learning to reinforce positive behavior and character for more than 300 students. The school is also an International Baccalaureate World School with diverse classes such as Japanese instruction, classes in computer science, Hawaiian studies, yoga and more. In Central Oahu, Mililani Ike Elementary provides more than 400 students with diverse opportunities to help students academically, socially and emotionally. "The school prides itself as the only elementary school in their complex to offer a grade K-5 World Languages program, where students can learn the fundamentals in Japanese and cultivate an enthusiasm for learning a foreign language," HIDOE explained in a press release. Mililani Ike students also have access to a unique Math Lab and other extracurricular activities.
