WILKESBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- The Republican nominee for the North Carolina governor's race and the current lieutenant governor Mark Robinson arrived just after 9 a.m. to address about 60 of his supporters outside a bakery in Wilkesboro on Monday. Robinson accepted a gift from a supporter and then addressed allegations head-on. “I’m going to start off by ignoring all of their salacious lies. We’re not going to talk about that. What I’m going to do is I’m going to talk about you,” Robinson said. Again, Robinson called the allegations a lie. That's what he's been saying since a CNN article was published. “They want to talk about what possibly happened 15 years ago. Let’s talk about right now,” he said. However, he said he's looking into any legal recourse. “We're in talks right now. Everything is up to legal counsel to take CNN ... We are going to go after what they've done., but we have five weeks left of this race. Folks, make no mistake about it, we are not going to let CNN throw us off of our mission,” Robinson said. He was confident as he spoke about his future for North Carolina. He touched on a number of topics, including the economy. “Our economy is built on five pillars. It’s built on the pillars of public safety, public education, health care, infrastructure and housing. Without those things, we cannot have an economy," Robinson said. A small group of protesters showed up and shouted during his speech.  “Ask him, especially, about school funding. Because he wants to get rid of federal funding ... We have so many Title One schools in this county ... The funding would be gone,” said Jeri Martin, a protester. His supporters say he's the right man for the job. "I support him since he's been in office. I just support just trying to ... bring the morals back," said James Farrington, a Robinson supporter. After speaking for about 10 minutes, Robinson took two questions from the media. He was asked about the timing of his staff members walking away from the campaign so close to the election. “It’s not the timing. It’s how you react. We are ready to react, and we’re doing it right now. We’re getting it done,” Robinson said. He was also asked how he plans to win the election after his general consultant and senior advisor, campaign manager, finance director and deputy campaign manager have all stepped down. “We’re right in the process right now of forming a team that we know will still lead us to victory, so we have full confidence in our ability to keep going,” Robinson said. After spending the morning in Wilkesboro, he spent the afternoon speaking to supporters in Boone. There are five weeks until election day.
