EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- The El Paso Police Department is investigating two cases of indecent assault or fondling that happened in neighborhoods near UTEP, the university said in an alert sent to students on Monday, Sept. 23. Both incidents happened on the same day, Sept. 18, and the suspect grabbed a female inappropriately, the university said. One incident happened at 1500 West Rio Grande and the other happened on Upson Street, UTEP said. The suspect is described as a white male with light skin, green eyes and short dirty blond or auburn hair. The suspect is also described as being 5-feet, 8-inches tall, weighs 170 pounds and is estimated to be 23 to 24 years old. He was last seen wearing a gray cap worn backwards and a gray backpack, UTEP said. If you have any information on this case, you can contact the El Paso Police Department's Central Regional Conmmand at (915) 212-4562. UTEP offered the following safety tips: Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings. Use well-lit walkways and buildings. Use the buddy system and walk with someone you trust. Walk near the curb and away from shrubbery where someone can be hiding. Don't make it obvious you are in unfamiliar territory. Giving the appearance that you are not paying attention or not being alert is what suspects look for in a victim. Walk quickly and with confidence.
