"We understand that rumors are circulating, but, again, I want to clarify that there were NO INJURIES OR FATALITIES related to this incident," Smith stated online. Two arrested in Sunday morning Glynn County shooting Earlier in the day, Ware County Schools released the following information: Parents, a lockdown is in effect at WCHS right now after reports of a shot fired were received. Law enforcement officials are in the process of clearing the campus. At this time, we do not believe there is an active shooter situation as no evidence has been found to that effect, but we are taking the threat seriously and following our established protocols. We will be releasing students from the high school once the building is cleared. Parents will receive information about pickup times and locations. Please do not come to the campus at this time. It is blocked off. We will continue to send updates as they become available. Thank you. Meanwhile, Coastal Pines Technical College's Waycross campus was placed on lockdown temporarily out of an abundance of caution due to its proximity to the high school. Smith said district safety protocols were carried out "exactly as planned" and he thanked law enforcement for their swift response. He continued: Families, we deeply appreciate your cooperation and patience as we prioritized the safety of our students and staff. Our school safety protocols are designed to ensure the well-being of everyone involved, and today’s response reflected that commitment. We also ask that you please take this opportunity to talk with your child about school safety and remind them to report any rumors or information about an unsafe situation to a trusted adult. Knowing that our students and staff may need support in processing their thoughts and feelings, school counselors and mental health support will be available this week. If a student would like to utilize this resource they should let their teacher know. Additional police presence will also be on-site for the remainder of this week as an added safety precaution. Again, thank you for your continued support of Ware County Schools. As today proved, we are stronger together.
