PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- A Petersburg man pleaded guilty on Monday to robbing two stores at gunpoint while wearing an ankle monitor. On Monday, Sept. 23, 36-year-old Demario Fisher pleaded guilty to three counts related to two armed robberies in Petersburg and Hopewell in 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). This includes one count of Hobbs Act Robbery and two counts of using, carrying and brandishing a firearm during a violent crime. On July 11, 2023, Fisher visited a Metro PCS store in Petersburg while wearing an ankle monitor and a bright work vest. According to court documents, he looked around the store, then left. About a half-hour later, Fisher returned to the store, forced an employee to go to the cash register at gunpoint and took cash from the register. He then left in a blue SUV reportedly registered to his girlfriend. VIDEO: VCU Police releases dashcam footage of Broad Street protest On July 17, 2023, Fisher walked into the Miller Mart BP store in Hopewell while wearing an ankle monitor and a t-shirt with a teddy bear on it. According to court documents, he purchased something, then left the store. As with the first robbery, he came back in later, this time wearing the bright work vest over his t-shirt. Fisher approached the counter with a gun and demanded the employee behind it give him money from the register. He then took this money and left in the blue SUV. In addition to these two robberies, Fisher reportedly admitted to another July 2023 robbery in Petersburg. According to the DOJ, Fisher said he robbed a BP Gas Station in Petersburg on July 12, 2023. During this robbery, he reportedly entered the gas station in a safety vest, brandished a gun and demanded that the clerk "empty the register." He then fled on foot with the money. The two identical firearm charges carry a mandatory minimum of 7 years and a potential maximum of life in prison -- though the DOJ noted actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than maximum penalties. Fisher will be sentenced on Feb. 11, 2025.
