(WGHP) — The Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas has announced the finalists for its 2024 awards, including seven entries from FOX8 WGHP across six categories. The awards recognize TV, radio and digital journalists and news organizations across North Carolina and South Carolina. FOX8 WGHP and members of the FOX8 family were recognized in the TV I division, which includes news organizations with 20 or more full-time employees and within markets encompassing Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, Raleigh-Durham, Greenville-Spartanburg, Asheville and Columbia. In the individual division, reporter and anchor Madison Forsey is a finalist for TV News Reporter of the Year (TV I), and chief photojournalist Keith Hale is a finalist for TV News Photographer of the Year (TV I). In the Photography category, FOX8 had two entries recognized among three finalists: an entry entitled "Memorable stories from North Carolina" and a joint entry by photojournalist Chris Weaver and Forsey for their coverage of Santa on a Trolly. For Light Feature, Hale and anchor Chad Tucker are finalists for the Roy’s Folks segment “Pastor Ralph Sproles Loves his People.” FOX8's digital team is a finalist in the Use of Social Media category, naming executive producer of digital content Justyn Melrose, digital reporter Emily Mikkelsen and digital producers Dolan Reynolds, Brayden Stamps and Michaela Ratliff. And in the category for Long Podcast, the team of anchor Michael Hennessey, photojournalists Kyle Gould and Chris Weaver and news director Kevin Daniels were recognized for "Mutiny, Murder, and Military on Campus." Winners will be named on Nov. 9, 2024.
