By Chabad of Carson City This High Holiday season, Carson City’s Jewish community will celebrate with a renewed sense of belonging and pride, as Rabbi Levi and Chana Sputz announce the opening of Chabad of Carson City. The center is set to meet the growing needs of Jewish residents in Carson City and surrounding areas, serving as a home for Jewish life and community in Carson City and the Carson Valley: Minden, Gardnerville and Genoa. It will offer a wide range of Jewish services, classes, and holiday programming. “We are thrilled to establish a home for Jewish life in Carson City,” says Rabbi Levi Sputz. “For years, local Jews had to travel elsewhere for Jewish programs. Now, we are proud to create a space where every Jew can feel welcomed, connected, and supported — right here in their own backyard.” A Community-Driven Initiative Rabbi Levi and Chana Sputz first moved to Reno to establish the Chabad Learning Center, offering Torah classes for adults across Northern Nevada. Over the past year, their outreach expanded to Carson City, and following an overwhelming response to local events — such as the public Menorah lighting at Bob McFadden Plaza, which brought together local officials and families — the Sputzes saw a clear need for a permanent Jewish space. The new center will be “an address for everything Jewish,” offering Shabbat dinners, Torah classes, children’s programs, and holiday celebrations for Jews of all backgrounds. “Carson City is a vibrant and diverse community,” says Chana Sputz. “We want to ensure that every Jew — whether they’ve lived here for decades or just moved—has access to the traditions, teachings, and joy that make Jewish life so special.” Global Mission, Local Impact As part of the global Chabad-Lubavitch movement, Chabad of Carson City is inspired by the teachings of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of blessed memory. “The Rebbe taught that every Jew matters, no matter where they are,” says Rabbi Sputz. “That’s why Chabad centers have opened in cities large and small worldwide. We’re honored to bring that vision to Carson City.” With more than 3,500 centers in over 100 countries, Chabad continues to create inclusive, welcoming environments for Jewish learning and connection. Chabad of Carson City will extend that legacy by providing a permanent Jewish presence in a community that, until now, has lacked one. Join the Celebration Chabad of Carson City will open in time for the upcoming High Holidays, offering a traditional Rosh Hashanah dinner and a public Shofar blowing to welcome the Jewish New Year.
