HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) – A couple of dozen friendly faces filled a room in the Hays County Elections Office Monday morning for the first poll worker training before the November presidential election.  “One of the most important things we can do as citizens is vote,” said Robert McMillan, who has been working elections since 2008.  “We are very intent on making sure the voter has the best possible experience,” he continued.  Like any other job, training for poll workers is essential so that everything goes smoothly on Election Day, Hays County’s Election Administrator Jennifer Doinoff said.  “[We want them] to know what they’re doing, so that they’re confident in what they’re doing, and so that the folks that they’re serving can feel confident in the service,” Doinoff said.  However, it’s not just about making poll workers confident. Recently, Hays County has worked to bolster voter confidence ahead of the Nov. 5 election.  “We put a little more of that into our training,” she said. “On top of that, we created the Election Integrity Task Force.”  This was formed in February ahead of the November presidential election to address any potential complaints or allegations from Hays County voters. The task force will comprise the Hays County Elections Office, District Attorney’s Office and local law enforcement agencies. Hays County residents can send any complaints or concerns to [email protected]. "Nobody wants a good, safe, secure election more than we do,” Doinoff said. “We work for that every day, and we hope that our voters recognize that." Hays County has more information on how to become a poll worker on its website.
