Fall has officially begun, and it feels and looks like the new season across the DMV today. Clouds, showers, and a few thunderstorms rolled through over the weekend, and these same grey, damp conditions remain into the new work week. A stalled front is set up to our west, with an onshore wind flow funneling clouds and scattered showers across the area. There have been and will continue to be breaks in the rainfall, but you'll need to keep the rain gear handy with on-and-off scattered showers continuing through tonight. Temperatures won't budge much in this setup, with afternoon highs only making it into the lower 70s and overnight lows staying in the 60s. Thanks to the fresh rainfall and damp air, areas of fog are likely early tomorrow morning, so be ready for a slow start to your Tuesday. After this fog dissipates, more of the same scattered showers and overcast sky can be expected. It might stay cooler tomorrow with these conditions continuing, with many of us not escaping the 60s. The stalled front finally gets moving on Wednesday, but it won't exit without producing more showers and pockets of steady rain, giving us our soggiest day of this unsettled week. A few rumbles of thunder may be heard, but the chance for anything more than that is low. Our one break in this pattern may come on Thursday, with the front now off to our east and high pressure trying to re-establish itself from the north. Even though it will be dry and warmer (temperatures near 80 degrees), we'll have a tough time breaking up the cloud cover. The forecast for the end of the week is a very difficult one. High pressure will still be to our north, trying to give us dry weather, but a storm system (most likely tropical) will impact the Gulf Coast and push our way into the weekend as it weakens. These two features will battle it out to ultimately determine what we will see from Friday onward. As things stand currently, it looks likely that we will see some isolated shower and storm activity Friday into Saturday as this tropical system falls apart. Still, it should be drying out toward the end of the weekend. Have a great rest of your Monday, and stay dry out there! 7-Day Forecast: Today: Cloudy with scattered showers and drizzle.
