NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - Potential tropical cyclone nine has formed. The NHC has released their first forecast cone for the storm, leaving Louisiana OUT of the path. Hurricane conditions are likely for the Yucatan come Tuesday. The system will strengthen QUICKLY as it enters the Gulf. A major hurricane, potentially Cat. 3, will be heading towards Florida on Thursday. Life threatening storm surge and destructive hurricane force winds are expected. Louisiana will be on the west side, also known as the 'dry side' of the potential hurricane. The end of this week will not be completely dry, but we will be spared off the significant tropical moisture and heavy rain from this system.
