NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Maria Robles says, right this way, please. She's ready to show you to your hotel room. It will be one of the 234 rooms she oversees as manager at The Barnett. It used to be the Ace Hotel in New Orleans. WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood gets a tour of the hotel and of Maria's resume. From under a bridge to the top of a New Orleans bakery Robles could be the mayor of this place. She's been in the hospitality business for the last 14 years. She says, "I think I might be the only Latina running a full-service hotel in New Orleans." She must have known she had a future in the business as she started at the front desk of a Texas airport hotel. USA's best new restaurant is in New Orleans She became Director of Housekeeping down the street at Royal Sonesta New Orleans on Bourbon Street before becoming the boss at The Barnett. You'll see Robles on our Hispanic Heritage Special on Friday, Oct.11 at 6:30 p.m. on WGNO.
