LEXINGTON, Ky (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — An investigation is ongoing following the discovery of a pipe bomb at Woodland Park on Sunday morning, prompting a response from the community. “They found a bomb in this area? Huh, I hadn’t heard that,” said a regular at the park, Bebe Lovejoy. The Lexington Fire Department reported that an individual found the explosive device at the park and then brought it to the fire station on Woodland Avenue. Fire crews were evacuated, and the bomb squad was deployed to safely dismantle the device. The Lexington Police Department has stated there is no ongoing threat to the public, and a thorough search of the park yielded no additional explosives. However, as of now, there is no information regarding a suspect in the case. Local residents expressed shock upon hearing the news. Daniel Grocer, a regular visitor of the park for the past 15 years, described the reports as surprising. “If you say hey, there’s a bomb threat or bomb scare here, that’s ridiculous. Life’s too short for that crap man,” said Grocer. Despite the incident, many park-goers indicated that their visits would continue as usual. “No it won’t change the way I think, yeah no I’m going to still keep walking through here,” said a park regular of 10+ years. The Lexington Police Department said this is an active investigation and is urging residents and local businesses to review their surveillance footage. If you have any information that could help in the investigation, you’re asked to contact the Lexington police department or leave an anonymous tip with the Bluegrass Crime Stopper, by calling (859) 253-2020.
