PORTLAND, Ind. (WANE) A strong storm swept through north central Indiana on Sunday, September 22, spawning a tornado that caused damage to homes and businesses in the area, including Jay County Jr./Sr. High School.

Jay County Jr/Sr High School sustained significant damage and forced the cancelation of classes on Monday. According to a post on the Jay School Corporation website, an update on the amount of damage and when classes might resume will be provided Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado did hit the area Sunday evening. It will continue surveying the damage on Monday to determine how strong the tornado was.
No injuries were reported as a result of the storm.
