(WPDE) — Olympic gold medalist Melissa Jefferson was honored at halftime during the Chanticleers football game on Saturday. The Coastal Carolina University alumni won the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics in the 4×100-meter relay. She also took home a bronze medal in the 100-meter individual event. Jefferson believes that her time in Conway was a crucial part to her success. “If it wasn’t for the way I developed here, I wouldn’t have these two medals around my neck, I wouldn’t have half of the accolades that I do have. So, being able to come here and be reminded of what this university has done for me and what it means to me as a whole is always special,” said Melissa Jefferson, a CCU Alum, Georgetown native, and Olympic Gold Medalist. Jefferson, a Georgetown native, also attended Carvers Bay High School. Unfortunately, her winning ways didn’t rub off on the Chanticleers on Saturday. They lost to the Virginia Cavaliers 43 to 24. CCU is now 3-1 on the season. Categories: News, South Carolina Sports, Sports, State
