CLICK HERE → FOX21 Foodie Finds Deal Built in 1928, this building was once the Alexander Film Studio, a major film advertiser and later a producer of airplane engines during World War II. Now, it's home to the public house, which opened in 2021. "We've been here going on three years," said bar manager Stephanie McNamara. "It's kind of industrial in this area, so there's not a lot of restaurants here, so people have really gravitated towards us and love that we're here." History is hard to miss here; the original film vault, with its massive heavy door, is a testament to the building's past. It was used to store highly flammable film. And yes, there's a vintage camera from the studio days on display—a quirky nod to the building's cinematic roots. PH at The Alexander is unafraid to try new things or mix things up, like a partnership with Black Hat Distillery. "We use their spirits exclusively. It's really a cool kind of concept; we don't have the typical stuff, so it makes it fun and exciting," noted McNamara. "We do a lot of infusions with their spirits, such as a strawberry vodka and a pickle vodka, which everyone really enjoys. They just have really good spirits." At the Public House, the food is as exceptional as the building's history. Guests rave about the burgers, often declaring them the best they've ever had. But the menu doesn't stop there; it features incredible sandwiches, including an "out-of-this-world" cheesesteak. Plus, tasty vegetarian options like fried green tomatoes and a delicious veggie flatbread pizza ensure something for everyone's palate. To complement their menu, The Public House at The Alexander offers an impressive selection of drinks. "We have 30 rotating draft lines, and they change frequently. I also get a lot of stuff from out of state that people are like, 'Oh my gosh, I can't believe that you have that,'" McNamara said. The atmosphere here is straight out of a feel-good 80s sitcom—think 'Cheers' but with better beer. "We definitely have a lot of regulars," she mentioned. "You come in and we know your name and where we're shouting at the door, you know? Hey, Jeff. Hey, Joe. And, you know, just kind of that relaxed atmosphere." For the PH community, The Alexander offers a variety of events and weekly activities, making it more than just a restaurant.
