NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The North Charleston Police Department recently honored two officers for their life-saving efforts. Officers Lucas Searles and Andrew Marshall responded to a Family Dollar on University Boulevard last month for a report about an individual experiencing a mental health emergency. The person, who was found on a nearby street, threatened to take his own life with a razor blade, according to the department. Officer Searles kept the subject's attention, and at one point, the man put the razor to his wrist. Officer Marshall used his stun gun, “effectively bringing a possible life-or-death situation to an end,” the department said. Officials say the man thanks the officers for saving his life. “It was a perfect example of great teamwork to avoid a possible tragic outcome,” officials said. The officers were awarded the agency’s “Life Saving Award” for their actions.
