AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Rain fell over much of the western/northern Hill Country with some rain totals exceeding 0.50". The rain will continue during the afternoon with more of that in isolated areas east of I-35. The chance of measured rain this afternoon will be 20%. Checking our area rain totals Most highs today will head to the low to mid 90s, still warmer than normal. The normal high today is 89° Rain with a few thunderstorms continue tomorrow through Wednesday afternoon. A cold front will move south bringing in the dry air for the end of the week. Rain for the first half of this week That dry air will find dew points in the 50s for the end of the week into the weekend. Very comfortable to end the week Tracking the Tropics Late Monday morning the National Hurricane Center found that the low in the northwest Carribean had strengthened with winds up to 30 mph. Potential Tropical Cyclone is moving north through the Caribbean at less than 10 mph. It will advance into the Gulf Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Winds will increase to tropical storm-force to become the eighth named storm in the Atlantic Basin. The storm will be named Helene. High confidence in our next tropical storm forming in the northern Caribbean next 48 hours While it moves through the Gulf it will get stronger with winds to 75 mph by Wednesday. It's headed to the eastern Florida Panhandle/northwest Florida where landfall is predicted some time Thursday potentially as a Category 2 hurricane.
