KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals played their last game of the 2024 regular season at Kauffman Stadium on Sunday in a 2-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants. That result adds to their losing streak, dropping seven games in a row. “I don't want to sweat it out. And it seems like Kansas City sports teams like to make us sweat, don't they?” asked fan Michael Greer. The losing streak is taking its toll on the fans. Royals struggle through 6th straight loss as playoff hopes dwindle “This skid that we've got here at the end of the season, we're in danger of, you know, not making the playoffs now,” Greer continued. “It means we got to turn this around and start winning,” said Clay Sargent. “We're changing up the lineup every day, it seems like, at the top. So, I think just getting that sorted out and, you know, just play fundamentally.” There’s still hope for the team as the tight wild card race in the American League could see them still make the postseason. As of Sunday, the team is a half-game ahead of the Minnesota Twins, who occupy the last wild card spot. The remaining 6 games will determine how their season ends. “It's going to be a fight all week,” said Royals radio announcer, Steve Stewart. “But this team is not panicking. They're in a great state of mind. They take it one day at a time, which is what you have to do in a 162-game sport. And they're really good at it.” Stewart says that the team is focused on bringing playoff baseball back to Kauffman Stadium. “I think it would be gigantic for this fan base,” he said. “I mean, it's why we all do this. It's why the players play; it’s why the fans are fans it's why the broadcasters broadcast, because you want to be around winning environments. You want to be around championship-level baseball. And that's what this team is trying to build toward.” Conversations with Johnson County sheriff candidates Greer went on to detail how the losing streak doesn't mean the Royals are done for, and that the 2024 season has already been a victory in and of itself. “This is a special year already, but we're so close. Don't give it up now. Please don't give it up now,” he begged. “It's going to be a big deal for everyone here. If we can get playoff baseball back here in Kansas City again. And that's why we're all here screaming our hearts out.” another fan agreed. “If we make it, great, I don't care how we do it. Like we're getting in, I'm down. In 2014 and 2015, I mean, that was the most fun I’ve had as a sports fan.” The Royals’ next game is Tuesday against the Washington Nationals. They’ll finish their season next Sunday with an afternoon game against the Atlanta Braves.
