During the "Clear the Shelters Month" initiative, more than 800 families adopted a new four-legged friend for their ohana. Clear the shelters at the Hawaiian Humane Society At the same time, 1,199 pets also came into its care meaning each kennel opened filled immediately and then some. "This is really important because when we're feeling our resources being stretched as much as they are, it limits our community and our ability to help the vulnerable pets who need us most," explained Brandy Shimabukuro, Manager of Communications. To combat its critical capacity, the Humane Society waived adoption fees for all dogs and cats through the end of September at the Moiliili Campus, Kosasa Family Campus at Hoopili, Pounce Hawaii and select PETCOs around Oahu. "If I could make a plea to anybody, it's if you love animals and you've been thinking about adding a pet to your family, consider adoption first because it makes a life-saving impact for animals in need," Shimabukuro added.
