AUSTIN (KXAN) -- This week will be an improvement over last week... but it'll take a few days for seasonable temperatures to settle in. Partly to mostly sunny skies will stretch areawide today with afternoon highs climbing into the low to mid-90s. A few spots of isolated rain are possible, but the majority of us are expected to stay dry. Tuesday into Wednesday will hold a better chance for spotty to scattered showers and storms as a cold front slides it. This will likely be our last opportunity for rain for the month of September, so fingers crossed we get as much of the 0.25" of rain computer models are advertising. Low to moderate rain chances through midweek Post-cold front, drier and pleasant weather will take over late week into the weekend. Tracking the Tropics The latest update from the National Hurricane Center focuses on an area of low pressure with a high chance of becoming Tropical Storm Helene over the next 48 hours. Above-average sea surface temperatures, limited wind shear, and a front along the Gulf coast will allow this area to intensify to at least Tropical Storm strength this upcoming week. Many models are suggesting this area will likely turn into a hurricane so we'll continue to provide updates on our tropical timeline article. High confidence in our next tropical storm forming in the northern Caribbean next 48 hours Most computer models favor a Florida Panhandle landfall late week with developing tropical system BLOG: First freeze?
