ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — "Market Sunday" at the International Plaza in Rochester had an extra special tone Sunday, as it honored the memory of two staple R&B musicians. ROC The Plaza hosted a tribute event for Frankie Beverly and Fatman Scoop, who recently died. Their careers had a major impact on local R&B music. Fans from across the city came together to celebrate their legacies and bond over the musicians' music. Grand Tone, who helped organize Sunday's event, emphasized that their music has unified the Rochester community. "The music is a vibe. Frankie Beverly always created music that people continue to play at barbeques, wedding receptions, and picnics," Tone said. Fatman Scoop, left, Frankie Beverly, right. (Courtesy: Associated Press.) One of Frankie Beverly's big hits is "Before I Let Go," released in 1981. Organizers of the event described Frankie Beverly within the African American community as a symbol of the "summertime concert" and the all-white linen suit. Fatman Scoop also had many popular songs including "Be Faithful" and "Dance." He is known as the "Voice of the Club" and is described as "The Hip-Hop Hype Man." Grand Tone named many local R&B artists who share the same goal with their music: bringing people together. "Rochester has a plethora of great music," Tone said. "Great talent like Jimmy High Smith, Cinnamon Jones, Danielle Ponder. Music for some reason just brings people together. Just the vibe of it makes everyone want to come under one roof." Sunday's tribute also brought a lot of local businesses together. Food and merchandise vendors from across the city took part in the afternoon of music and dancing. This event is one of many at the International Plaza for the season, which runs until Oct. 13.
