WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Machinists union members at Textron Aviation are preparing to strike after rejecting the final contract offer from Textron Aviation. A union leader today declined to speak on camera, but said the mood among union members Sunday was solemn as they prepared to begin picketing. Textron Aviation on the other hand said they're disappointed union members didn't accept the proposed four year contract. The company said in a statement, "No one benefits from a strike, and the company has made very effort to avoid one." The strike set to start at 12 a.m. Monday morning could be brief or could last months. Larry Straub, associate professor of management with Newman University, said inflation is a big driver behind the desire for higher wages. "People get scared, they get apprehensive, they just don't feel like they're keeping up," said Straub. Straub said union members are also likely emboldened by the success of other recent strikes. Both Textron Aviation representatives union leadership said they're not sure *when negotiations could start back up again.
