According to the Milwaukee Police Department, one person is dead and another injured after a hit-and-run Saturday night.A 20-year-old and a 23-year-old were crossing 76th St. when struck by a northbound vehicle.Faith Cureton saw it happen right before her eyes around 11:50 p.m. near 76th and Good Hope. Cureton, a mother and EMT, was driving home from a restaurant when she heard the crash."I heard tires screech and a big boom and then realized that there was somebody on the ground," Cureton recalled. "She was just laid out lifeless and I couldn't even think of a reason to not stop and offer CPR."The 20-year-old died at the scene and the 23-year-old was transported to a local hospital with non-fatal injuries. "I was there holding her hand, praying for her to make it through. I am very sorry to her family. This pain, I dont wish it for anybody," Cureton said.Police said the striking vehicle left the scene but was later located and a 34-year-old was arrested.Heartbroken, Cureton is pleading for people to change their behavior behind the wheel."It couldve been my daughter, our daughter. This is our community and this is a reflection of us," she said. Charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorneys Office.
