Photo by Norm Hall/Getty Images Watch: Lions pull of a brilliantly executed hook-and-ladder with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs The Detroit Lions have thrown a lot of different looks at the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, including pulling off a beautiful hook-and-ladder trick play to score a touchdown. The Lions were up 13-7 with 36 seconds left in the half and were set up just outside the Cardinals’ red zone. The Lions spread out their offense four wide with two pass catchers on either side of the formation and Jahmyr Gibbs in the backfield. At the snap, the Lions ran the same duo routes with their pass catchers, with one pass catcher running a seam route and the other receiver running an underneath in route. On the right side, Sam LaPorta ran the seam with Amon-Ra St. Brown cutting underneath as the primary read for Jared Goff. The pair hooked up just 3 yards down the field and the defense closed hard on St. Brown. What the Cardinals failed to see was that Gibbs leaked out of the pocket and was running in the exact opposite direction, underneath St. Brown. As Gibbs crossed St. Brown, the savvy receiver lateraled the ball to Gibbs who exploded down the sideline, right behind LaPorta who was blocking downfield.
