BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) - Are you prepared? In Butler County, residents learned how to help their families through several disasters.
This was all thanks to the Federal Emergency Management Agency's 20-hour disaster preparedness class.
People were able to learn more skills to help them through major emergencies, natural disasters and more.
"Say they just come across an emergency, and the fire crew shows up or the paramedics show up, and they say, 'Hey, I'm CERT trained, and here's what I've been able to do before you arrived.' There's an understanding with our emergency services of 'Oh, I know what you're capable of,'" said Director of Emergency Management Butler County Keri Korthals
They will also hold a large-scale exercise for several of the emergency management programs in October.
