MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis Police say a man shot at another man's apartment after the two got into an argument in the pool area. At 6:14 p.m., officers responded to a shots fired call in the 200 block of S Front St. They were told that the suspect, a bald 5'8" man wearing a brown shirt and black shorts, was still in the area. When officers arrived, the complainant told them that the suspect was located in the first-level hallway on the northeast corner of one of the apartment buildings. They found the suspect without incident. In his right pocket, the suspect had a Ruger LCP with a .380 auto live rounds. Officers managed to detain the suspect and secure the firearm. The suspect admitted to officers that he was the one who fired shots in the apartment complex and later told officers that some individuals in the pool attacked him. He added that that made him feel threatened and led him to fire the shots. He claimed that someone else had fired shots at him. He also said that he was "tired of being disrespected by the white people" and had gotten into a physical altercation with a man with dreads. Officers noticed the suspect had a scratch on his left elbow but no other injuries. Downtowners duck for cover as shots fired on Front Street A witness showed officers a video of the suspect yelling while at the pool but it did not show any specific individuals being involved.  While on the scene officers spoke with multiple residents and at no time did anyone claim to see anyone else other than the suspect fire shots in the complex. Officers then spoke with a witness who said that while she was walking her dog, she heard a disturbance in the pool area. She said that she came to the pool area and saw the suspect agitated and yelling. She said that she tried to calm him down. She told officers that she saw the suspect pull a gun from his waistband, point the weapon toward one of the apartments and fire three shots. The witness said she left the scene once the shooting started. .Officers spoke with another witness who claimed to be friends with the suspect. He told them that he had heard the disturbance and the first three shots and went to the pool area to check out what had happened. He said he located the suspect and saw him agitated and upset about the people who were staying in the Airbnb. He said the suspect then pulled out a gun and fired a single shot into the apartment that had previously been shot. The witness said at that point he panicked and fled the pool area. Man dead after overnight shooting Officers then spoke with another witness, the man who was pointed out by the suspect as the one who had dreads. He told them that he, his girlfriend and her son lived in the apartment that was shot at. He said that approximately one hour before the shooting he had a verbal altercation with the suspect. He claimed that the suspect was in the pool area yelling profanities and creating a disturbance. He said that he told the suspect to stop causing the disturbance and that they had a child in their apartment. He denied having a physical altercation with the suspect but instead left with his girlfriend and son to go to Beale Street. He said he was not in the apartment during the shooting. Other residents told officers that their apartments were struck by bullets, including one woman who claimed it caused $500 worth of damage to her apartment window and walls.
