UNCASVILLE, Conn. — The Indiana Fever dropped the first game in their best-of-three series with the Connecticut Sun on Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena. The third-seeded Sun downed the sixth-seeded Fever, 93-69, thanks in part to the efforts of forward Alyssa Thomas. The multi-time WNBA All-Star hung a triple-double on the Fever, racking up 12 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds. Thomas and her front court running mate, DeWanna Bonner, set the tone during the game. Bonner dropped 22 points and racked up six rebounds and five assists. Connecticut also got a significant contribution from guard Marina Mabrey, who scored 27 points off the bench. The Sun acquired Mabrey via a trade with the Chicago Sky earlier this year. Indiana had four players score in double figures — point guard Caitlin Clark 11, guard Kelsey Mitchell 21, forward Aliyah Boston (17) and forward Damiris Dantas 12. Boston finished the game with a double-double, racking up 11 rebounds in addition to the points she scored. Big Picture Indiana now trails its series with Connecticut, 1-0. They will face elimination in game two of the series. Counting Sunday's contest, the Fever are 1-4 against the Sun this year. Indiana's lone win against Connecticut — an 84-80 game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse — came on Aug. 28. Indiana has lost three of its games to Connecticut this season by more than 10 points, counting Sunday's game. Should Indiana win game two of the series, a deciding third contest will be played at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Up next Indiana will play Connecticut in game two of the series on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena. If the Fever force a third game in the series, it will be played on Friday.
