HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum will host the annual Honolulu Intertribal Powwow on its Great Lawn this weekend, Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Get Hawaii's latest morning news delivered to your inbox, sign up for News 2 You The event, organized in partnership with the Hoopili Tribal Council, celebrates Native American cultures through music, dance, and food. “A Native American powwow is a gathering to celebrate cultural traditions,” said Lisa Kaanoi, president of the Hoopili Tribal Council. “It’s a reunion and a spiritual healing, connecting us to our ancestors.” Now in its 48th year, the powwow aims to promote Indigenous traditions and community building while showcasing the diversity of Native American heritage. The event is expected to draw hundreds of participants from across the country. Royal Hawaiian Center hosts free butterfly release event Featured participants include Head Man Dancer Baac Garcia from the Tohono Oodham Nation, Head Woman Dancer Kat Warren from the Dine Nation, and Emcee Randy Medicine Bear from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. Event highlights include traditional and contemporary dancing, drumming, and singing; food options like Navajo frybread and local Hawaiian cuisine; children’s activities; and vendors selling Native crafts. Admission is $5 per person per day, with free entry for Bishop Museum members who pre-register. Admission includes access to the Museum’s galleries and exhibitions.
