Triple-A Columbus Clippers (3-3) vs. Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers) The Clippers clinched a playoff spot this past week and threw a combined no-hitter on Sept. 19. That no-hitter was thrown by Connor Gillispie (five innings, seven strikeouts, two walks), Randy Labaut (two innings, two strikeouts), and Anthony Gose and Tanner Burns for an inning each. We see ya, @TannerBurns_7! Our guy closes out the combined no-hitter. #WarEagle | #AuburnMadepic.twitter.com/oe8pXzAVUA — Auburn Baseball (@AuburnBaseball) September 20, 2024 Carlos Carrasco joined the Clippers, accepting an outright assignment by the Guardians and pitched his first non-rehab outing in the minors since 2013 and allowed a run in 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. He may just be throwing to stay active as depth at this point. Tyler Freeman has been getting work at right field, left field and second base, and had a five-hit day on Sept. 21 including three doubles and a homer as he also looks to stay ready as depth as well. Any chance he has to be on the playoff roster could depend on the health of Steven Kwan and if Cleveland feels Myles Straw makes sense as a bench option. He has a chance to pitch in the playoffs for Columbus but his 2024 season is likely over at the big-league level. Outfielder George Valera had surgery to repair a torn patella tendon after getting injured two weeks ago. The recovery time is expected to be 6 to 9 months. Valera will be out of options going into 2025. Cleveland may try to apply for a fourth option year on Valera, but he might not qualify. The Clippers play at the Omaha Storm Chasers (Kansas City Royals) this week in the International League championship. Double-A Akron RubberDucks (1-2) vs. Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers) Akron was eliminated from the Eastern League playoffs by Erie, two games to one this week. After falling, 3-0, in Game 1,  Cooper Ingle and Kody Huff combined for four hits, four RBI and three walks to help lead them to a game two win over Erie, 7-4. Parker Messick started game two and allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings. Starter Aaron Davenport gave Akron three innings out of the bullpen and allowed a run while striking out four to secure that win. Austin Peterson, who led the minors in innings pitched in 2024, allowed a run in 5 2/3 innings in game one with three strikeouts and took a tough-luck loss as Akron couldn’t push a run across. Jonah Advincula had a game-tying hit in the first round of the playoffs in Game 2, and then hit homers in Games 2 and 3 to help put Lake County in front. TIE BALL GAME. JONAH. ADVINCULA. Outfielder Wuilfredo Antunez drove in two runs with three doubles in the series. Offensively, shortstop Angel Genao had a dominant championship series with three doubles out of five hits, three RBI and three walks. Angel Genao with more opposite field pop. (@JL_Baseball) September 18, 2024 Matt Wilkinson, unsurprisingly, helped pitched Lake County to a decisive Game 3, by allowing two runs in a career-high 6 2/3 innings in Game 2 with five strikeouts and two walks. (@JL_Baseball) September 17, 2024 Right-hander Dylan DeLucia was on the mound for the winner take all game three and tossed 4 2/3 shutout innings with five strikeouts, though had a walk and two hit batters. In the playoffs, DeLucia’s velocity jumped to 94-96 mph, a little up from his 91-94 at times earlier in 2024.
