PARLIER, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man was found dead Friday morning in Parlier, and the Fresno County Sheriff's Office has ruled it as a homicide investigation.  Deputies received a call at around 6:30 Friday morning about a man who was injured, lying in his yard on South Zediker Avenue, South of Adams Avenue in Parlier.  Deputies found 63-year-old Silvino Serrano dead at the scene. Investigators eventually discovered he suffered trauma. Dead body found in Fresno County yard "At first we thought it was a suspicious death until we took a closer look and got our deputy coroners involved. They found other signs or injuries that pointed toward this being a homicide," Tony Botti with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said. Tony Botti says Serrano was a father who worked as a farmworker. "He was a farm worker. He was scheduled to go to work in the morning. Of course, he never showed up. He's a father, he's a husband, he's a total innocent victim in this situation," Botti said.  He says Serrano's coworker was worried when Serrano never came to pick him up. "Mr. Serrano is a very punctual person. He was actually supposed to go pick up one of his coworkers, and when he didn't show up, that person said 'This doesn't seem like him. I'm going to do a little bit more digging and find out.' And it was that call that pointed us to the direction of his home, and somebody there is who ultimately found him out in the yard," Botti said.  In 2021, deputies also investigated the death of 52-year-old Silvano Mendoza, a friend of Serrano's. "They both worked as farm workers, and they're both dead today as being unintended targets. So, it's just very strange. I mean, we're not saying that there's any correlation between these two, but, you know, it's just kind of it kind of makes you reflect," Botti said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sheriff’s Detective Jose Diaz at (559) 600-8204 or Detective Richard Antunez at (559) 600- 8221.
