University Hospitals has welcomed Jonathan Sague as the chief operating officer of University Hospitals Geauga, a campus of UH Regional Hospitals, UH Conneaut, and UH Geneva medical centers. Sague transitioned to the new role this summer after serving as the chief operating officer of UH St. John Medical Center in Westlake. During his four years leading the hospital, great strides were made in enhancing quality of care, according to a UH news release. In a quest for zero harm, UH St. John Medical Center was awarded the highest possible quality rating of five stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the federal agency that administers Medicare. UH St. John earned the distinction in July, putting it among the 8 percent of hospitals nationwide to be honored this year. Sague also recently completed his Doctorate of Nursing Practice at Case Western Reserve University while continuing to be a first responder at the Chardon Fire Department and spends many weekends caring for and transporting patients to local emergency departments, including at UH Geauga. The new role is especially meaningful to Sague as he is returning to Geauga County where he was raised. Sague served as a cadet on the Chardon and Munson Fire Departments as a teenager before becoming a firefighter/paramedic. His love for patient care ultimately led to nursing, then flight nursing and critical care transport as an acute care nurse practitioner. “As a paramedic, nurse practitioner, and executive, I am able to see issues through many different lenses and perspectives,” Sague stated in the release. “From the emergency medical services who bring us our patients, to the bedside with nursing, advanced practice providers, and physicians, all the way to the boardroom – I understand the needs of caregivers and have a passion for providing high quality and safe care to our patients.”
