ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Police Department (APD) said there's been a dramatic decrease in shoplifting reports in the city's larger shopping districts. APD claimed in the Cottonwood Mall, Coronado Center, and Uptown areas, there were 444 reported incidents of shoplifting in August. According to officials, that's a dramatic decrease from the nearly 900 reports in January of this year. How much can you be fined for speeding in New Mexico? APD said many of the repeat offenders have also been identified as suspects in other property crimes such as auto thefts and burglaries. They also say businesses have been limited in reporting due to corporate policies, but increased communication with businesses has helped some places revisit those policies. APD is encouraging businesses to join the Albuquerque Retail Assets Protection Association to help share trends, identify repeat offenders, and build communication lines with police.
