There were Severe Thunderstorm Watches and Warnings as well as Flood Watches that affected most of northern and eastern New Mexico today. A low-pressure system over the four corners drew up moisture from the Gulf of Mexico into New Mexico today. This caused heavy rainfall and severe storms across most of northern and eastern New Mexico. A Flood Watch is in place for most of Northeast New Mexico until late in the evening of September 21. Additionally, the National Weather Service has Severe Thunderstorm Watches in place for eastern New Mexico until 10:00 p.m. on September 21. Hail ranging in size from a ping pong ball to 2" in diameter was reported in Curry and Chaves County. A cold front will be moving into New Mexico by Sunday morning. This front will be decreasing temperatures across the state just in time for the start of Fall. Rain chances on Sunday will be isolated to northern and eastern New Mexico. Monday dries out considerably with rain chances only in the Northern Mountains. Scattered showers return to eastern New Mexico on Tuesday. After the cold front moves out Tuesday, temperatures will warm up across the state through the week.
