Lutz’s long-range rocket with 3:52 left in the first half proved to be the lone goal as the Ravens held on to beat Allentown, 1-0, on Saturday morning at the Steven J. Mayer Athletic Complex and move top of the CVC Colonial Division. “We were saying take the shot, take the chances you can get,” Lutz said. “I was looking at it and I was like ‘oh no,’ because I thought it hit the (football goal post), but then it went in and I was really happy.” Actually, the ball smashed off the underside of the crossbar and then ricocheted in off the back of the very unlucky Allentown goalkeeper. Robbinsville (6-1-1, 2-0-1 CVC Colonial) is now unbeaten six and hasn’t lost since conceding a pair of late goals against Lenape in the second game of the season. “We’ve had very good team chemistry,” senior sweeper Caileigh Guzik said. “That started since our summer practices, and we’ve been able to ping passes together really well, communicate really well. I’m really happy about our outcome (so far). We still have a lot of work to do, but I think we’re in a really good position right now.” Once again chances were at a premium in a tightly-contested division clash. Allentown (4-1, 2-1 CVC Colonial) had a good chance in each half, but Ravens goalkeeper Gabby Sabol came up with saves to deny Martha Olorunnisola in the first half and Amanda Hoglund with eight minutes remaining in the game. Guzik, Katie Andrus, Kinsley Franke and Ella Moir worked hard in a back four sweeper/stopper setup to keep the Redbirds quiet. “I know the importance of a really strong foundation in the back and being able to build from our back,” said Ravens coach Caitlyn Curran, who was a left back in her playing days at East Stroudsburg. “Having such confidence in them, makes the rest of the field have confidence.” Allentown (4-1) 0 0 — 0 Robbinsville (6-1-1) 1 0 — 1 Goals: Lutz (R).
