HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- The 16th annual Paddle Battle took place on the Appomattox River this Saturday, where people of all ages and skill levels took to the water for some outdoor fun. Hosted by the Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR), this year's Paddle Battle took place at around 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, giving people the option of a 10-mile leisure paddle, a 10-mile race or a 2-mile guided paddle along the river. Dozens of people came out to enjoy the event, paddling downstream in different vessels and at different speeds, rewarded afterwards with lunch and an award ceremony.
