BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man who allegedly attempted to escape police custody by driving recklessly and running into a wooded area across the North Carolina line. At 2:51 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, a patrol vehicle with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a vehicle for an alleged driving violation. According to authorities, the driver "disregarded all signals to stop and fled recklessly from the deputy." According to a release from the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle drove down Robinson Ferry Road before coming to a stop at Birdsong Road in Ebony, just across the North Carolina line. The driver then ran away from the scene and entered some nearby woods. Authorities said a firearm was found inside the abandoned vehicle. Investigators identified 23-year-old Jaden Firman, of Lawrenceville, as the suspected driver and law enforcement initiated a search. "After several sightings and the use of numerous deputies and K-9 teams from multiple agencies, Firman was located and arrested without incident," the Brunswick Sheriff's release reads. Firman is now being transported to Meherrin River Regional Jail where he will reportedly be served with the following warrants: Felony eluding Possession of a firearm by a felon Reckless driving No valid license "Special thanks [to] our Brunswick County citizens that provided help and information and also to the other agencies who assisted with the search and provided resources to ensure a successful and safe response," said Captain Joey Lopresti in the Brunswick Sheriff's release.
