RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- We've seen a severe thunderstorm warning already tonight for portions of Buckingham county. Potentially more severe thunderstorm warnings may occur through Midnight tonight, bringing damaging wind gusts as the primary threat. Saturday night into Sunday morning, brings scattered showers and storms to Central Virginia in association with our latest weather system, coming at us from our northwest overnight tonight. Heavy downpours, gusty winds, frequent lightning and very small hail are all a possibility through the Midnight hour tonight from northwest to southeast across the viewing area. So, if you have plans through the Midnight hour tonight, have that rain gear on hand and stay dry. Aside from the scattered showers and storms overnight tonight, it will be mostly cloudy and muggy with temperatures only dipping down to around 65 degrees. Sunday for the second half of this current weekend, first and foremost brings the autumnal equinox or first day of fall, which kicks off at 8:44AM local time. Sunday’s forecast brings a cooler day with highs in the middle to upper 70s under mostly cloudy skies, along with showers and storms early in the morning with a light northerly breeze from time to time. Monday to kick off the NEW work and school week, brings a mostly cloudy sky with afternoon temperatures in the upper 70s. Tuesday and Wednesday are when we will see isolated showers and storms in the forecast, from an approaching cold front from our west with highs both of these days 75 to 80 degrees. Thursday will be a mainly dry day under partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 70s. Friday will also be a mainly dry day under mostly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 70s. I put “watching” right now for next Saturday, as there’s high levels of uncertainty in next weekend’s forecast based on what the computer weather forecast models are showing, so stay tuned. Speaking of staying tuned, please stay with us on air and online for the latest happenings in the tropics, as things out in the Atlantic Basin are remaining quite busy these days heading into late September.
