OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — RIVERSPORT OKC is set to host the grand opening of the Trailhead Bike Park expansion on Friday, October 4. The grand opening will kick-off with a ribbon breaking ceremony at 11 a.m., and will feature professional BMX riders, Chase Hawk and Aaron Ross. BMX riders from Yukon and skateboarders from OKC Skateboard Lessons will also be in attendance, demonstrating their skills both on bikes and skateboards, on the new expanded trails. LOCAL NEWS: Science Museum Oklahoma opens new planetarium “We’re opening this for everyone on wheels to enjoy,” executive director Mike Knopp said. “Bikes, skateboards, one wheels – you’ll find them all on the trails. The newly expanded Trailhead Bike Park will display new and revamped trails, the Wheelhouse coffee stop, Oklahoma City Thunder trail feature, an elevated trail that runs across the rooftop of the park's repurposed shipping containers. To make the park a great gathering spot for the outdoor community — several trees have been added for shade, a community garden, public restrooms, and an outdoor classroom area. The bike park has a mountain bike skills course, the largest Velosolutions Pump Track in the United States, and a fiberglass Momentum Pump Track for novice riders in both mountain biking and BMX. The park will also serve as a hub for the Greenway River Trails, giving access to an 80-mile loop that goes around Oklahoma City. To showcase the grand opening of the newly expanded bike park, extreme demos will performed by both Chase Hawk and Aaron Ross. Hawk is a BMX icon from Austin, Texas, who earned himself a gold medal at the 2014 X games. He is known for his effortless riding style and technical tricks. Ross a BMX rider from Corpus Christi, Texas, known for his standout videos and competition performances that display his innovative street riding style. The grand opening and ribbon cutting will be held on Friday, October 4, following a full day of activities on Saturday, October 5, that will include OKC Skateboard lessons. Trailhead Bike Park is open to the public, but does include specific times that are reserved by pass holders. Park guests are advised to bring their own bikes and to wear helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads when using the pump tracks. For more information about the bike park, click here.
